Rainbow Six Siege’s meta shifts with every seasonal balance patch, and Year 9 has introduced significant changes to roaming viability and gadget effectiveness. Here’s what’s working at Gold rank and above in 2026.
Attacker Tier List
S-Tier Attackers:
Ash — Consistently one of the safest attacker picks in the game. Her R4-C is the most reliable weapon on attack, and Breaching Round creates hard breach options without requiring teammate coordination. High pick rate in ranked for a reason.
Thermite — Mandatory in almost every serious attack composition. Hard breach capabilities without Thermite require multiple gadget sacrifices that weaken the team elsewhere. Pick Thermite when you’re anchoring an attack strategy around a specific wall.
Flores — The RCE-Ratero drone provides attacker-side reconnaissance that no other gadget replicates at the same range. On maps with deep defender setups, Flores provides information that changes your entire site push.
A-Tier Attackers:
- Hibana — Flexible breacher, can shoot through the wall you need to open without approaching it. Less coordination-dependent than Thermite.
- Sledge — Soft breach utility at lowest risk. The Breaching Hammer is reusable and silent.
- Twitch — Shock Drone destroys defender gadgets before they can be used. Pairs naturally with any operator that requires a clear path to a location.
Defender Tier List
S-Tier Defenders:
Bandit — The strongest defender in the current meta. Bandit Trick (electrifying barbed wire before Thermite charges) remains unpatched and effectively negates hard breach when executed correctly. Understanding the Bandit Trick is mandatory for serious Siege play.
Jäger — ADS gadget auto-destroys attacker grenades — the most passive defense utility in the game. His weapon (416-C) is top-tier, making him strong regardless of whether his gadget provides value.
Valkyrie — Three remote cameras provide defender-side information advantages that win rounds silently. High skill expression, extremely high reward — a Valkyrie player who places cameras strategically wins more rounds than most fraggers.
A-Tier Defenders:
- Echo — Yokai drones can jam drone sound and disrupt site pushes. Difficult to use well but very powerful in the right hands.
- Mozzie — Stealing attacker drones creates a persistent information advantage. Excellent on maps with complex multi-floor sites.
- Frost — Welcome Mats remain one of the most reliable kill-or-injure tools in the game on consistent entry paths.
The Operator Picks That Win Most at Each Rank
| Rank | Best Attacker | Best Defender |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze–Silver | Ash | Jäger |
| Gold–Platinum | Thermite | Bandit |
| Diamond–Champions | Flores + Hibana combo | Valkyrie |
The Most Common Mistake in Operator Selection
Picking operators based on their weapons rather than their utility. Siege is won and lost on information and gadget value, not individual gunfights. An operator with mediocre weapons but critical utility (Thermite, Bandit, Valkyrie) provides more team value than an operator with an excellent weapon and redundant or low-impact gadget.
A good rule of thumb: if you can replace an operator’s gadget effect with someone else already on your team, choose a different operator.
Map-Specific Operator Recommendations
Different maps favor different operator compositions. On maps with thick walls (Oregon, Chalet), Thermite is more critical. On maps with complex camera lines (Clubhouse, Consulate), Valkyrie and Flores provide exceptional value.
